Cartoon Cinematics to appear in Lara Croft: The Guardian of Light

18th March 2010

Lara Croft: The Guardian of Light is similar to the Tomb Raider series but not considered to be part of the series, this gives the Crystal Dynamics team room to experiment with new ideas. One of them being is new cartoon cinematic. The news was released over GDC. The game will still feature everything that makes Tomb Raider recognisable including the voice acting, sounds and ambience etc. Personally I'm looking forward to it, for the fans who loved the Gametap animated series they will enjoy it.

This style has been used in other games before, in 2008 Atari released Mirror's Edge which featured cartoon styled trailers and cinematic. Unlike Mirror's Edge, the team at Crystal Dynamics will have the difficult job of staying true to the Tomb Raider feel whereas ME was a brand new game and they had bigger boundaries.

In-game cinematic moments will explore these carefully crafted spaces, with hand-drawn, motion-comic inspired cutscenes filling in the narrative gaps. Update: The Art of Tomb Raider

 9th March 2010

There is a new update for those waiting for "The Art of Tomb Raider":
The books are currently being shipped from Singapore to the US by boat. It is estimated that the time taken for this should be 4-6 weeks depending on customs. The books will be indivially inspected to make sure there is no damage or stratches made during transit and then packaged carefully and indivially shipped (I feel sorry for those who live in Singapour). There is a brand new limited edition print with every preorder as well!

Now some news about the future: The pre-order discount will expire on March 31st, after the price will rise to $125 for the two volumes. The company has confirmed that they will not make a standard edition since they only work in limited edition high quality art books. Long story short when the 2000 copies are gone, they're gone!

Lara Croft: Guardian of Light (Read More)

04 March 2010

Eidos announced this morning that they are working on a brand new Tomb Raider title named "Lara Croft: Guardian of Light" The game is planned to be released later this year. The game is a spin off from the normal Tomb Raider series. Keir (Community manager at Eidos) has released that it is not Tomb Raider 9, but another project that the company has been working on. I presume this is why the company was split into the two groups as mentioned in the interview posted a few days ago. The new game is a digital download and a preview of it will be shown "behind closed doors" at the Games Developers Conference in San Francisco later this month, for those who can't go there is news that is going to be posted. Also released by Keir, we know the game is not a mini game or online. Although the words digital download is not a friendly word to hear unless you own an XBOX360, they have said that nothing has been announced yet.
