Tomb Raider 3 Movie Put On Hold

28th November 2010

We might have to wait a little longer for the third Tomb Raider movie. According to TheWrap.com since Warner Brothers no longer own the Tomb Raider copyright they're not making a new film. When the third movie was announced Warner Bros had a stake 16% in Eidos, but after the Sqaure Enix merge things became complicated. According to The Wrap website:

"As for "Tomb Raider," Warners no longer has the rights, so if Lara Croft does find another feature film adventure, it probably won't be released by the Burbank studio."
It's unlikely that the movie will be cancelled, it is Tomb Raider after all, but we're going to have to wait a little longer for any news on it.

Desert Bus For Hope

20th November 2010

If you have read the Guns and Grapple Magazine November Issue or follow the site on twitter then chances are that you've heard about Desert Bus for Hope 4. The event is held by an online comedy group called Loading Ready Run which you may have seen if you visit the Escapist Magazine, they are behind the Unskippable, ENN, Daily Drop, Loading Ready Run, Commodore Hustle videos and they also the Whatever Thing, Man Cooking, Phailhaus and Iron Stomach Challenge series on their main site. The group plays a seriously boring game called Desert Bus while fans donate to Child's Play. The event lasts for several days, the number of days depend on how much much is donated. Although the game is boring the event is far from it, the group not only interact with the fans all the way during the event, but they run giveaway competitions, impressive auctions, they accept challenges which vary from dances to songs and comedy sketches.

Child's Play is a charity which gives hospitals money who care for children who spend a large proportion of their lives in hospitals, and the money raised goes to buying consoles and games so children can escape life for a few hours.

It's awesome, so make sure to check it out! So far they're nearing $18,000!

A Survivor Is Born?

13th November 2010

Over night a new rumour for the upcoming Tomb Raider pillar release has surfaced. The site http://asurvivorisborn.com/  might be connected to the game since it has already been released that it will be an origin story. idos and parent company Square Enix haven't commented on the Game Informer image so you'll just have to wait until 6th December!

Appearently the Google Analytics account number, apart from the last two digits, matches a number of Eidos; sites.

There also seems to be the same colour schme in the logo is very similar to those of the images that were leaked a few months ago.

Plus if we go back to what was revealed about the storyline, Lara Croft ends up shipwrecked on a mysterious island off the coast of Japan. Well....

Toby Gard creates "Otherworld" due 30th November

10th November 2010

For the past few months Toby Gard, the creator of Lara Croft, has been busy designing his own web comic called "Otherword" which will be released twice weekly. The manga style comic will focus on Celtic myth and will follow two women who end up in a parallel world with mythological creatures.

The comic is based on a book that I wrote a year ago but that I never published. I’d love to make a game or a movie out of this idea, since I’ve been obsessing over it for years, but without a spare hundred million dollars that seems unlikely. So while the comic format is not my first choice of medium to release this, (mainly because my art is a bit embarrassingly rusty, apologies in advance) it is going to be fun writing and drawing the whole thing. It just might take a while to get through it all.

Comics manage to entirely circumvent the ratings system, but I warn you that this story is not for children. It is likely to include: extreme violence, gore, partial nudity, sexual situations, drug references, strong language, gay and lesbian themes, and pretty much anything else necessary to tell the story without compromise. By Uk ratings standards it’s probably a 15 rather than an 18, though.

So if you like action packed, morally ambiguous modern fantasy, where myths are woven together with conspiracy theories, then Otherworld might be right up your street.
The first 15 pages will go up on 30th November. (I'll post a reminder on twitter as well)

Lara Croft features in Babington Lane mural

9th November 2010
Lara Croft has been appearing all over Derby, I'm slightly expecting a golden statue of her to be placed in the centre of a roadabout. Her latest appearence is on Babington Lane mural which features all the local heroes in Derby. Lara Croft stands alongside Bonnie Prince Charlie, St Helen's House, a Spitfire, Derby Catheral, the Quad, and the Rolls Royace engine. Mel Holmes has covered an unused shop window on the corner of Gower Street, the image stretches over 7mx2.5m.

Derby City Council's Art in the City project is funded by the Department for Communities and Local Government and funding secured from Westfield. The project aims to improve the look and feel of the city, showcase local artistic talent and encourage people to visit local businesses and explore hidden gems in the city centre.
